The Low Country Consortium

The Low Country Consortium

After years and years of civil war, ethnic division and political unrest, the Muslim, Sinhala and Tamil people of the low country of Northern Sri Lanka have joined together to offer all their children the hope of a brighter future through the transformation of education. Living as bonded workers to the tea plantations, educational opportunities offer the best possibility for a non-plantation life to young adults. If fortunate enough, the British school system offers a student an education through the equivalent of ninth grade. However, before entering High School, the majority of low country children must resign themselves to life and death laboring on the tea plantations. The talent and intelligence of these budding young adults is not in question. Without teacher and classroom assistance preparing for the O-level test to qualify for the equivalent of American High School, the challenge is well beyond fair for kids growing up in the shacks surrounding the tea fields which their parents have worked since they have been capable of doing so. Jaikanth and the Low Country Consortium are organizing classes now allowing students a reasonable opportunity of passing the O-Level Exams which leads to high school and the further opportunity of passing the A-Level Exams and qualifying for University. For just $30 a student can be enrolled for an entire year long program studying for the O-Level Exam, which qualifies them for high school. Every Child on Planet Earth Deserves the opportunity of an education.
