The Department of Accountancy (DoA) is one of four departments in the Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies, University of Kelaniya. The Department was established in 1995 under the name of Accountancy & Human Resource Management. In 1998, the Accountancy unit was established under the same department and in 1999 Accountancy unit was upgraded to a full departmental status and named as “Department of Accountancy”. It attracts the highest calibre of academic staff and it has established itself as a leader in research and undergraduate programmes. Many academic staff of the department have experience in industry and the profession and provides advice as consultants and experts and thus are able to blend the theoretical with the practical knowledge in their teaching. Part of the success of the department has been ability to adapt its programme to meet the changing demands of industry and the profession.
