Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda, is a leading mixed school in Sri Lanka. The college was established in 1913.It is one of the educational institute supported by the Buddhist Theosophical Society led by Colonel Henry Steel Olcott, and accordingly is one of Sri Lanka's oldest schools. It provides primary and secondary education.Location and sizeDharmasoka College is situated in Ambalangoda within the administrative distrrict of Galle, Sri Lanka. At present, it consists of over 5,000 students and about 250 members of the academic staff.History in briefIn 1913, The college was established with only 15 students by its founder Mudliar S. Thomas de Silva Esq. who spent his own wealth for the establishment and development of the college.On April 10, 1929, the Sugatha Sasanodaya Samithiya (a benevolent society) took over entire administration of the college. The Government of Sri Lanka took control of the college in 1961.Some managers under Sugatha Sasanodaya Samithiya were P.De S. Kularathna Esq.,BA,Bsc,LLB, Dr.M.H Saddhasena and L.C De Silva Esq. All of them were Ex.Members of Parliament.Dharmasoka College is one of the top graded Buddhist schools ever established in 19th century. It has been rapidly developed in a large scale. The name “Dharmasoka” has been popular not only in the Southern region of Sri Lanka but also in the whole island.
