On the 8th may 1928, the Feast-day of St.Michael the Archangel, the Late Rev.Father J.B. Meary, O.M.I. ,declared this school open. Commencing with barely 50 children of both sexes collected from those parishioners who did not known how to educate their childern or where to send them, and over the past years the proporations and dimensions the schools' growth has not only bear great fruition but also has been the moment desired by its founders whose reward can never be adequately paid. On the 29th of June 1928 this school was provisionally registerd and since then there hasbeen a steady rise in numbers. The moto of the school is "in fide et justitia " and the staff and pupils both direct their effort in the light of faith which is the source of their inspiration and a sense of justice which pervades their noble deeds and heroic sacrifices. The colors of the school-scarlet, white and gold-scarlet to arouse in the hearts of the pupils love of work and sacrifice, white for the love of purity in their live, and gold for prefection and success.

Sri Jayawardenepura Maha Vidyalaya is a government school in Kotte, Sri Lanka. It was formally known as Christian College until 1964 when the administration of the school was taken over by the government. The school traces its roots to 1822 when the Cotta Institute was established as a seminary for young Ceylonese of which the first principal was Rev. Samuel Lambrick. The third principal of the Academy was Rev. Joseph Marsh, who later became the first principal of Colombo Academy present [Royal College] in 1835. From 1855 to 1934 it was known as the Church Missionary Society (CMS) Boys' School at Kotte. In 1934 it was called Christian College,which was a very popular school in the island. The CMS Boys' School was a training institute for young Ceylonese, inclined to teach the gospel. The last principal of C.M.S. Christian College [1959-1963] was Samuel Louis Alexander Ratnayake. Himself an old boy of Christian College, he added new buildings and organized many colorful activities, such as drama festivals, sports and carnivals in addition to prize givings and sports meets. The school community was a rich mix of different ethnic groups and religions all working in harmony to improve the quality of the future generations. Even though the college has a prestigious history, today's condition is not to be proud of. The college needs proper guidance to improve its present condition. Therefore all the past students are invited in this college re-building up process.
