Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, also known as Muttiah Muralitharan International Cricket Stadium, is one of the newest cricket stadiums in Sri Lanka and the newest in the city of Kandy. The stadium has been renamed as the Muttiah Muralitharan International Cricket Stadium. In July 2010, The Central Provincial Council in Kandy unanimously made the renaming decision to honour the legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan, an Anthonian and Kandy native. The stadium was declared opened on 27 November 2009. Muttiah Muralitharan International Cricket Stadium became the 104th Test venue in the world in December 2010. The first Test was played between Sri Lanka and the West Indies from 1–5 December. The Colombo Art Biennale (CAB) is an independent organisation that functions as not-for-profit, supported by the CAB team and the artists that participate as well as international cultural bodies. It is the most important contemporary arts event in Sri Lanka and as with all international art biennales, it takes place biannually. The forthcoming edition is set to open on the 31st January 2014 and carries the theme of ‘Making History’. The CAB mission is to consistently recreate life-changing events that affect the positive development and growth of the country. In addition, through the interactions of Sri Lankan and international contemporary artists, the event is viewed as a significantly positive project in which the international community is able to interact in a creative manner. CAB has hosted over 90 artists in its 2009 and 2012 editions, both local and international. The majority of Sri Lanka's most prominent artists have exhibited at the Colombo Art Biennale, and CAB 2012 hosted the largest number of artists participating in one single international art event in the country. CAB is currently preparing its third edition for 2014, which will be held from 31st January – 9th February 2014. It will be curated by both local and international art professionals, and plans to showcase art works of around 50 artists from around the world. Nuwara-Eliya

Nuwara-Eliya

Nuwara Eliya is a city, in the hill country of the Central Province, Sri Lanka. The city name meaning is "city on the plain (table land)" or "city of light". The city is the administrative capital of Nuwara Eliya District, with a picturesque landscape and temperate climate. It is located at an altitude of 1,868 m (6,128 ft) and is considered to be the most important location for Tea production in Sri Lanka. The city is overlooked by Pidurutalagala, the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka.HistoryThe city was founded by Samuel Baker, the discoverer of Lake Albert and the explorer of the Nile in 1846. Nuwara Eliya's climate lent itself to becoming the prime sanctuary of the British civil servants and planters in Ceylon. Nuwara Eliya, called Little England then, was also a hill country retreat where the British colonialists could immerse in their pastimes such as fox hunting, deer hunting, elephant hunting, polo, golf and cricket.Although the town was founded in the 19th century by the British, the whole district is today visited by native travelers, specially during the month of April, the season of flowers, pony races, go cart races and auto rally. Many of the buildings retain features from the colonial period such as the Queen's Cottage, General's House, Grand Hotel, Hill Club, Town Post Office and even new hotels are often built and furnished in the colonial style. Anyone who visits the city can wallow in its nostalgia of bygone days by visiting these landmark buildings. Many private homes still maintain their old English-style lawns and gardens.
