S. W. R. D. Bandaranayake. * Mr. H. M. A. Premarathna Hitinayake was appointed as the first principal. * On 8th of October 1977, Mr. S. B. R. J. B. Gannoruwa was appointed as the second principal. * Name of our school was changed to "Janadhipathi Vidyalaya" and reformed as model primary school. * In 1981 school facilities were developed to conduct classes where students can learn up to G. C. E. O/L. * On 16th of July 1984, Mr. K. M. A. Kulathunga was appointed as the third principal. * Five buildings were build in collaboration with the School Development Society. * In 1986 our school name was changed again to its current name as Sir John Kothalawala Maha Vidyalaya, in memory of Sri Lanka's 3rd Prime Minister Sir John Kothalawala. * A Buddhist shrine room and a Science laboratory for advanced Level students was constructed on 31th of July (yr?) * Our school was upgraded into a 1AB grade school. * In 1993 Mr. B. S. Sikurajapathi was appointed as the principal for short period. * On 30th of April 1993 Mr. M. S. B. Senewirathna was appointed as our fifth principal. * On 04th of April 1995 Mr. J. Rathnayake was appointed as our sixth principal. * In 1999 A "Silver Jubilee" the anniversary celebrating the passage of 25 years of our school was organized by the Old Boys Association. * Mr. Samaranayake Mallikarachchi was appointed as our seventh principal. * Currently our school is under the guidance of Mr. W.M.S Indrarathna.

Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala, is a government school established in 1888, by the Buddhist Theosophical Society led by Colonel Henry Steel Olcott. It is one of Sri Lanka's oldest schools and considered by many to be a leading Buddhist school in Sri Lanka.It is a National School and controlled by the Central government. Today the school accommodates nearly 5000 students. The term "Devans" (Sinhala:ඩේවන්ස්) is being used to call the former/present pupils of Maliyadeva College.
