MALIYADEVA MODEL SCHOOL...
Maliyadeva model school our “alma matha”
owns a history of 31 years from 21th February 1978.
And also at present she is in the 1AB level with 320 teachers
& 4241 students under the guidance of our honourable principal
Mr. D.C.Ranasinghe
Within this short history of 36 years our school has managed to
create an attitudinal change in pupils & provide the modern world.
HOW TO IT BEING..
It had been difficult task for the parents
of the children who seek
admission to preliminary Classes of both leading Buddhist
Schools namely Maliyadeva Boys and Girls in Kurunegala town,
towards late nineteen seventeen.Hence, the school has been
established in 1978 February 27th with two intention. The first
being to evade the tag pressure caused to educate children
in preliminary classes in both Maliyadeva Boys and Girls
Schools in Kurunegala town.
The second being to continue this school as the feeding
of both Maliyadevas with those succeeds at the grade five
scholarship examination. These two reasons have been
the very reason to name this school as a Maliyadeva primary
model school. But as these intentions were not materialized
the school had to continue classes up to junior and senior levels.
It was under the patronage of late Mr. Piyadasa
Wijesinghe Honorable Minister of Parliament for Kurunegala the

during 70-78 region of late Mrs. Sirimawo Bandaranayaka, the
honorable prime minister of ceylon and the honorable minister for
Kurunegala Mr.D.B.welegedara. theist building 25’ * 240 wide has
been during to start the school during 78-83.The first principle
appointed to this school was Mr. T.A. Sriwardana and the
tutorial staff was Mrs. Fonseka, Mrs weerakoon, Mrs. Indra
Thilakarathne, Mrs.Kamala Piyaseeli, Mrs P. A. Seelawathi and
miss Chandrakanthi Gunawardana The first student admitted to
rhe school appears to be as Raween
Manjula Gunawardana and S.R.M. Nirmala Kumari The school
commenced with preliminary classes and 3 grade one classes as
the first single storied building put up was not sufficient for more than
6 classes As the member of student have increased annually the
building and other facilities to have been improved with the
aid of government well wishes, the staff and parents of the
school Amongst the well wishes the most prominent character
has been Mr. B.G.D. Fernando the divisional director of Education in
Kurunegala.Others have been Mr. D.B. Dissanayake, Leek, Hewawasam
the principals of both maliyadevas, the principal, teachers and parents
of the school in the vicinity of Kurunegala town.Few months after the opening
of the school there spread a good news about the quick and vast progress
of D.S. Senanayake M.V. in Colombo achieved within a short period of time
like 6 years and that has been subjected for the discussion among the most
of the offices and the scholars Island wide.
Mr. B.G.D. Dernando the district director of seduction in Kurunegala
on hearing this news as taken the principal and the staff of maliyadeva
model school to D.S. Senanayake M.V. in Colombo for them
to find out the process the principal Mr.A.F.Alias has adopted.Again
they have been given opportunities to listen to the lecturers given
in there is connection at the curriculum center at Colombo.On
their return they all got together and prepared a scheme of work to
in that scheme the top priority had been given to shramadana system.
Hence all effort have been made to obtain the assistance of well wishes,
teachers, pupils and parents in the Kurunegala in a large scale with
various sources to developed the schoolAfter
continuing sharamadana for some time they were able to
realize the good result gained through it anda the resumed
the work on a wider scale with out leaving room to cause any
damage to the routine of these who took part in sharamadana work.
In the mean time arrangement were made to hold sharamadana in
every weekend. As a result there had been great influence among
all who took part and the school has developed to this level today
not only with the aid of the government but with the aid of well wishers,
teachers, parents, pupils and so many other right round in Kurunegala town.
By the beginning of next year (1979) this school has set an example to
all other schools in Kurunegala by welcoming all of new students with
a bouque of flowers to each of them, have been presented with a toy
by the class teachers while parents had treated all of them with milk rice
and oil cakes, and plantains.
