The future of The Mary Anne School of Vocal Music lies in it being an integral part of the growth of Western Vocal Music in this country and imparting the valuable teaching methods and techniques to teachers locally as well as those from abroad. This country has a plethora of musical talent and given the training and opportunities they need they will be world beaters. It is the goal of the school to create such achievers in Vocal Music.
As a matter of interest the titles of some of the productions of the Merry An Singers will indicate the wide spectrum of musical repertoire audiences have received. ‘Mozart’ Requiem’ (A full work) “A toast’ (10th anniversary), “Cinemagic” (50 years of Film music), ‘Songs my mother taught me’ (favourite old time melodies), ‘Annie’ (a children’s Musical), ‘The Wonders of the Season” (Christmas music), ‘Disney Spectacular (a full time concert with all the favourite children’s’ characters), ‘A feast of hymns’ (2 hours of traditional hymns), “Bach to Beatles” (classics to Pop).
The school of 32 years, has had on its alumni and students of Mary Anne the largest number of Sri Lanka’s most successful and memorable performers: from Sunil and Piyal of the ‘Gypsies’ and Rajitha of ‘Misty’, Ashanthie, Bathiya and Santhush, of the famous group B&S and Naushad and Roshan of the band ‘Flame’ (both of which were formed within the school).
