The Institute for the Development of Commercial Law and Practice (ICLP), established in 1992, has been constantly committed towards the development of commercial law in Sri Lanka. ICLP played an important role assisting the government to enact the Arbitration Act No 11 of 1995, and in 1996, established the only institutional arbitration centre in Sri Lanka. ICLP Arbitration Centre, which facilitates approximately 100 arbitration sittings per month, has entered into agreements of co-operation with the Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, The Indian Council on Arbitration, The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the Kuala Lampur Regional Centre for Arbitration, the Thai Arbitration Institute and Council for National and International Commercial Arbitration- India.
