Anuradhapura Central College which is considered as the heart of Anuradhapura is situated in a sacred environment. It was established in 1947 under the initiative of Mr. R.L.N. de. Zoyza in Rathmale area. Later it has been shifted to the present place. Today it has become the most prominent school in Anuradhapura district. It has shown its excellence in both academic and in co-curricular activities. Mr. Vipulasena Rajapaksha is the contemporary pioneer of the college and is supported by a staff of 150 teachers who guide a student population of 3200. This great academic centre has contributed to the nation by producing great people in many fields such as law, politics, education, administration, mass-media and in many entertainment fields. The college has become a national school on 25th may 1993 and celebrated 50th anniversary in 1997 amidst the felicitation of old boys and well wishers all around the world. Today it has achieved a great development under the leadership of the present principal Mrs. Menike Jayasena.
