CECB is the foremost engineering consultancy and construction enterprise in Sri Lanka with multi-disciplined professionalism, multi-sector capabilities and ambitious plans for future growth. CECB was formed in 1973 to play a pivotal role as national consultant in Water Resources and Civil Engineering projects. At the initial stages, CECB was engaged as the local consultant with international consultants in the major hydro-power and reservoir projects in the Accelerated Mahaweli Development Scheme. However over the years to effectively face the changing needs, socio-economic and market challenges of the different era the Bureau has widened the scope and delivery of services. Today CECB has achieved significant growth in providing the full spectrum engineering services to clients in the country and abroad starting from project identification, pre-feasibility, feasibility, EIA, geological/geotechnical investigations, surveying, architectural, structural, MEPI etc., to detailed implementation and construction. The main sectors of expertise now are: Buildings including High-rises; Highways, Bridges, Railroads; Water Resources including Hydro-power; Water Supply and Drainage; Ports and Coastal works. It carries out Design and Build, Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) and Build Own and Operate (BOO) projects. CECB is fully equipped with required plants, equipment, heavy machinery, and other physical resources to undertake all types of engineering projects in any part of the country at short notice. In this context, the IT linked decentralized management system implemented by CECB with a network of regional offices and operational Bases throughout Sri Lanka has helped to provide fast track solutions and on site decision making to suit client needs and targets.

Colombo Dockyard established its operations in 1974 and is now Sri Lanka’s largest engineering facility in the business of ship repair, shipbuilding, heavy engineering and offshore engineering. It is situated within the Port of Colombo. Besides being located in a convenient geographical location, it also has the benefits of a deep water harbour which provides and ensures quicker turn around times at affordable rates for larger ships. Colombo Dockyard operates four graving dry-docks, the largest with a capacity of 125,000 metric tons deadweight (DWT) as well as extensive repair berth facilities. Colombo Dockyard is capable of working in compliance with all Classification Society Standards and in strict adherence to international Safety and Quality Standards. It is also accredited with the ISO 9001-2008 Quality Certification by LRQA, UK. Colombo Dockyard is also expanding its infrastructure facilities, enabling it to build even larger vessels required in the offshore sector,such as Multipurpose Supply Vessels and Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels, as such keeping up with current trends in modern international shipbuilding. Colombo Dockyard operates in joint collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd., Japan since 1993.
