Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage Volunteer Scheme

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage Volunteer Scheme

Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage is an orphanage and breeding sanctuary for rescued, injured and abused wild elephants which is situated northwest of the town of Kegalle, Sri Lanka. The orphanage is very popular among local and foreign tourists; the main attraction is the opportunity to observe the bathing elephants from the broad river bank as the herd interacts socially, bathing and playing. Visitors to the park can view many different aspects of the care and daily routine of the elephants, such as bottle feeding of elephant calves, feeding of all other elephants, and bathing. The orphanage is open to the public daily, and all admission fees are used to look after the elephants ABOUT THE VOLUNTEER SCHEME The volunteer scheme gives you the chance to give back but also gain valuble experience. As well as being an affordable way to travel it also looks great on a CV! Having volunteering on your CV shows that you are flexible, patient and committed; it can really set you apart from other candidates. Our volunteer scheme was set up a few years ago and was created in a way that would benefit the elephants the most; you spend your days working with and looking after the elephants and the money you pay goes straight to their welfare. This scheme is about half the price of most other volunteer projects and is run by people who genuinely care about the elephants' welfare and your experience as a volunteer. CONTACT: Feel free to contact us with any queries about volunteering or to be linked with a past volunteer who can give you an insight into their experience. You can contact the page directly or send us an email and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. Sri Lankan Manager - Charith Abeynayake -email: charithabeynayake@yahoo.com

Rawana was the grandson of Rishi Pulasthi and son of Sage Visravasmuni. He was the younger brother of Vaisrawana Kuvera (Kubera) and the elder brother of Vibishana, Kumbhakarna, Mahi Rawana, Hema, Khara, Dushana, Luxhman, and Suparnika. His mother was the Daitya princess Kaikesi. Her father, Sumalin, king of the Daityas, wished her to marry the most powerful being in the mortal world, so as to produce an exceptional heir. He rejected the kings of the world, as they were less powerful than him. Kaikesi searched among the sages, and finally chose Visravasmuni. However Visravasmuni warned her that as she approached him at an inappropriate time, their children would tend towards evil, but accepted her nevertheless.......
