Our 43 years of humble and steady history began at China Fort, a well-known city for Gems in Beruwala, located in the Western province of Sri Lanka, just 100km far or 2 hour travelling distance from the Gem Centre of the Island, Ratnapura.
At the beginning we mainly dealt with small sized stones ranging from precious to semi-precious gems. We then specialized in the production of calibrated Sapphires so as to make a successful strategic move, capitalizing the available resources. This was done by our founder with a strong vision to be a world class gem merchant and supplier, so that time we could call foreign gem buyers from Singapore and Taiwan. And proudly we were the first to bring foreigner gem buyers from Taiwan and Singapore to Sri Lanka at that time in 1975 we guess. And now it has been expanded to a state merchant company and proudly supplies calibrated Sapphires all over the world especially to American and European countries.
Though we started small, today we are one of the top Gem suppliers in Sri Lanka. "Since there is a huge demand for natural Gemstones in Sri Lanka, we have with us both heated and unheated Gems. We can fulfill any requirement of our customers, be it calibrated or single" the founder of the “Sapphires”, Mr.A.W.M. Thowfeek stated confidently.
As a global outlet to the Gem business, we have established a modern Gem buying centre in the heart of Ratnapura and Colombo. Here, anyone who is in need of precious, semi-precious, heated or unheated Gems can simply contact us or step into our buying center to buy their heart's content. Our customers consist of both businesses and individual buyers.
