ATI Trincomalee History
The ATI, Trincomalee is one of the ATI’s which comes under SLIATE, coming under the purview of Ministry of Higher Education.
The SLIATE has been established by the act of parliament no 29 of 1995 focusing on fostering Advanced Technological Education.There are 12 ATIs and 6 ATI Sections all over the island and Trincomalee ATI is one of the 12 ATI’s.
Trincomalee ATI Section was functioning under the Technical College from 1996, coordinate by course Coordinator and Resource Coordinator (Principal of the Technical College).
From 15th may 1999, Trincomalee ATI section was promoted to ATI Centre and the institutional head was the course Director. From 15th November 1999, Trincomalee ATI Centre was promoted as the Advanced Technological Institute through the cassette notification made by the Minister of Education.
The Advanced Technological Institute of Trincomalee was started at the Inner Harbor Road (Near T/St Joseph College) in1999. Due to the T-Sunami in December,2004, the ATI was shifted temporarily to the Vocational Training Centre, Uppuveli in 2005. It functioned there since August, 2007.
Under the T-Sunami fund, a land was allocated and a new building was put up. Since 2007, September, the ATI has been functioning at the Kanniya Road, Varothaya Nagar, 7Kms from Trincomalee town.
KumarasamyVeemarajan is the First director of ATI, Trincmalee. He had been as the Director from 1999 to February, 2013. He was the Course Coordinator from 1996 to 1999 as a section under the Technical College, Trincomalee.
